After two days of Web voting, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Hank Baskett of Clovis has been chosen the National Football League’s Rookie of the Week.
Baskett, who beat out highly touted players such as New Orleans’ Reggie Bush and Arizona’s Matt Leinart for the honor, caught three passes for 112 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles’ 38-24 win over NFC East Division rival Dallas on Sunday.
His performance including an 87-yard catch-and-run on a pass from Donavan
McNabb early in the third quarter. Baskett’s first NFL touchdown gave the Eagles the lead for good at a 24-21 lead.
According to NFL.com, more than 42,000 fans submitted votes.
Fans can continue to vote for the Rookie of the Week award throughout the season. At season’s end, five players vie for Rookie of the Year honors.
