United Way Executive Director Erinn Burch said the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization will meet at 9 a.m. at Greene Acres Park for a briefing on a Day of Caring. Another group will provide assistance to the Boy Scouts by painting their new building in Portales.
Two of the afternoon groups will help the Salvation Army and Matt 25 Hope Center by sorting donated items, sweeping and cleaning items. Ceiling tiles will also be installed in the basement of the Matt 25 Hope Center.
Dennis Chavez Park will also receive a face-lift by volunteers who plan to paint fences and park benches, Burch said.
“This event is special because it provides volunteers an opportunity to really put a dent into something. This is not just busy work. There is a point to it (volunteering).”
