Seventy small dancers clad in green and red elf costumes will perform on Main Street tonight in downtown Clovis.

The performance will kick off the city’s 2006 Christmas Lights Parade.

A tree lighting is also scheduled for 5 p.m. at Seventh and Main streets.

The theme for this year’s parade, which begins at 5:30 p.m., is “A Downtown Christmas.”

According to Clovis MainStreet executive director Robyne Beaubien, 50 businesses, churches, organizations and school groups will be represented in the parade. Beaubien said onlookers can expect to see several equestrian groups, decorated floats, and Santa and Mrs. Claus in a horse-drawn carriage.

The street lights won’t be turned on so attendees can enjoy the hundreds of twinkling Christmas lights on display during the parade, Beaubien said.

“Show up early,” Beaubien said, “and dress warm.”
