Investigation reports into an escape and a stabbing last month at the Curry County Detention Center are complete, but officials have so far declined to release them.
Curry County Assistant Manager Lance Pyle said a report was completed Wednesday evening and Warden Leslie Johnson has met with Curry County Manager Dick Smith.
“Appropriate actions are being taken,” Pyle said. “These are personnel matters, so that’s all I can say.”
Smith and Johnson could not be reached for comment on Thursday.
The 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office launched a joint criminal investigation into why an escape by convicted felon Guadalupe Rodriguez on Dec. 23 wasn’t reported for nearly two days and into the circumstances surrounding the Dec. 26 stabbing of inmate London Word, 20.
Rodriguez was captured Dec. 28 without incident in Dimmitt, Texas.
Demetrio Salas, 21, was charged Dec. 27 with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner in connection with the stabbing. He is in jail awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges for the shooting death of 9-year-old Carlos Perez.
Prosecutors have completed their criminal investigation into the incidents, according to District Attorney Matt Chandler, though he said he has not had a chance to review findings. Chandler said he expects to be finished with the report and file charges, if warranted, by this evening.
Salas faces 12 years for the stabbing, according to Chandler.
Word was awaiting trial on charges of assault and battery on a household member, records show.
