PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University has received about 28 applications for its vacant volleyball coaching position, according to athletic director Mike Maguire.

He said search committee headed by ENMU athletic trainer Ed Kabrick is scheduled to meet next week after classes start for the spring semester to determine who will be brought in for interviews.

Maguire resigned as volleyball coach in October after 20 seasons. He’s also served as ENMU’s athletic director since 2001.

Maguire posted a 392-269 record at ENMU, but the Zias struggled to a 6-27 mark in 2006.

He said the school hopes to have a coach in place by the end of the month.
