Clovis’ and Portales’ legion of hard rock fans have plenty to get excited about Saturday as the rock band Ligion appears at the Prince Lounge in Clovis.
“Melodic hard modern rock is the way I would characterize these guys,” KICA-FM corporate program director and afternoon drive personality Jack Shaw said in describing Ligion.
KICA-FM 98.3 is bringing the emerging group into Curry County for one show Saturday in conjunction with the Prince Lounge.
“They just have such a professional attitude for being a bunch of rockers, and they’re just putting on great shows. So we’re really excited. We think it’s fun to bring in a good band especially when they’re just starting,” Shaw said.
Shaw said the radio station pulled off quite a coup in getting the Nashville, Tenn.-based band to play in Clovis.
“They’ve had a couple of dates in between tours where they’ve been able to talk about coming down here,” Shaw said. “And they’re actually on tour with Crossfade and Saliva right now, and they are just taking off a couple days from that tour to come down here and play with us.”
A five-man band from Cleveland, Ligion played to a full house on Halloween at Goober McCool’s in Portales.
Goober’s disc jockey, Andrew Roybal, liked what he heard.
“They were really good, especially for playing in a small venue like this,” Roybal said. “They managed the acoustics pretty well, so it wasn’t just a loud blur.
“There were a bunch of guys up there getting all rowdy, in a good way. They weren’t starting any trouble. I think everybody was pretty happy with them.”
Ligion’s new album, “External Affairs” is expected to be released in March, containing the two hit singles “On the Way” and “Carry Me.”
“We’ve been playing the two songs,” Shaw said. “‘Carry Me’ is probably the hit. It’s just a really memorable, great tune.”
