Hounds hang on for split with Savage Storm

DURANT, Okla. — Reliever Tyler Doughty induced Southeastern Oklahoma’s David Newell to hit into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded in the sixth inning, and junior Keith Balderaz pitched around two hits in the seventh for his second save as Eastern New Mexico University held on for a 7-6 win and a split of their Lone Star Conference crossover doubleheader with the Savage Storm.

Southeastern scored five unearned runs in the fifth to win the opener 8-3. The teams complete the four-game set with an 11 a.m. twin bill today.
Senior Troy Vaughn worked 5 1/3 innings for the win. The Hounds carried a 7-1 lead into the sixth inning before the Savage Storm rallied.

ENMU (9-5) pounded 14 hits off five Southeastern pitchers, led by third baseman Derrick Kennedy with 3-for-4.

The Savage Storm (4-4) capitalized on two Greyhounds errors in the fifth to break open a 2-2 game. Seth Clabaugh (2-1) took the loss.

Catcher Gerald Juarez went 2-for-2, including his second home run of the season in the sixth inning.
