Lady Rams hold on

ALBUQUERQUE — Bethany Self had 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists, leading Portales to a 41-34 victory over Ruidoso on Tuesday in the girls Class 3A quarterfinals.

The Rams (19-8) seized control early. Ruidoso (17-12) got within 38-34 with 57 seconds remaining after a 3-pointer by Tonee Montoya. But with the Warriors forced to foul, Portales closed out the win at the free throw line.

Briana Hernandez added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the top-seeded and defending state champion Rams, who advanced to play 12th-seeded St. Michael’s in Thursday’s semifinals.

Hailee Bob led Ruidoso with 11 points.
