More than 100 classic cars will cruise into Clovis on July 9 as part of the 25th Anniversary Great Race.
The event is a recreation of the legendary 1908 New York to Paris “Greatest Auto
Race,” according to www.greatrace.com.
The coast-to-coast event, sponsored locally by the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, has rolled down Clovis’ Main Street before, according to Chamber spokeswoman Liz Eisenbraun.
“Clovis was awarded Best Host City in 2002 and received $5,000,” Eisenbraun said, “and we also won in 1999.”
Eisenbraun said all winnings were given to the Clovis-Carver Public Library.
“If we (Clovis) win again, it will be the only time a city has won three times,” she said.
Chamber Executive Director Ernie Kos said the Great Race will be a community event filled with amazing cars, food vendors and children’s activities.
“We will block off the area from Grand (Avenue) to Seventh Street,” Kos said, “because this event brings more people to Main Street than any other.”
