Greyhounds split with West Texas

CANYON, Texas — Sophomore Evan Orsak pitched a two-hitter, helping the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds to win 3-2 and earned a Lone Star Conference South split with rival West Texas A&M.

West Texas won the opener, 7-4.

With a 3-0 lead in the nightcap, Orsak (3-2) gave up a two-run homer to catcher Caleb Palmer with one out in the seventh. Keith Balderaz recorded the final two outs for his fifth save.

The Greyhounds (17-22, 2-4 LSC South) got an RBI-single in the third from junior shortstop Tyler Hayes and a two-run single in the fifth from sophomore designated hitter Clayton Young.

Jessie Rodriguez (2-5) went the distance, giving up eight hits and walking one.
In the opener, the Buffs (9-27, 1-5 LSC South) took control in the fifth inning when shortstop Coby Corley hit a three-run double to left off of starter Seth Clabaugh (4-3) for a 5-2 lead.

Eric Henderson (4-4) allowed four runs on 10 hits in 7 1/3 innings, and Cole Peyson retired five of the six batters he faced for his second save.

The teams finish their series today, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. MST.
