Checker Auto Parts is returning to Clovis with a new store at 3216 N. Prince St., adjacent to the Sherwin Williams paint store set to open soon.

“We are building a new store in the Clovis market,” confirmed Jim Schoenberger, vice president of marketing for CSK Auto Inc., Checker Auto Parts parent. Anticipated opening is mid-July, Schoenberger said.

The 7,000-square-foot store will be more than double the size of the facility Checker Auto Parts had in Clovis previously, he said.

“It was a very small store … less than 3,000 square feet,” he said, and its size was “not practical” to service the market.

He was not able to say when the company’s previous auto parts supply store was closed, although Clovis City Manager Joe Thomas said it was about 15 years ago.

“We are excited to be coming back to Clovis,” Schoenberger said.

CSK Auto Inc. is a specialty retailer of automotive parts and accessories, operating more than 1300 stores in 22 states, according to its Web site.
