Reporter’s Notebook: Rodeo queen contestants sought

APRIL 30 IS THE DEADLINE for contestants who wish to enter the annual Pioneer Days Rodeo Queen Pageant competition.

The pageant is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. May 29 at Joe’s Boot Shop in Clovis. Contestants will be judged on appearance and personality. Horsemanship competition will follow at 2 p.m. at the Curry County Mounted Patrol Arena.

THE WINNER WILL REIGN over the 2007 Pioneer Days Rodeo, which is scheduled for June 7 through June 9.

The annual pageant offers competition in four age groups:
—Ages 17 through 22 will vie for the title of 2007 PDR Queen,
—Ages 13 through 16 will compete for the title of PDR Princess,
—Ages 8 through 12 are eligible to compete for Little Buckaroo Rodeo Queen, and
—Ages 5 through 7 will compete for LBR Princess.

CONTESTANTS COMPETING TO BECOME PDR Queen must be Curry County residents and able to represent Curry County at the New Mexico State Fair contest in September. Contestants for other titles must reside within a 50-mile radius of Clovis.

The annual competition is sponsored by the Pioneer Days Rodeo Queen Pageant Committee. Entry forms are available from Wilma Fulgham, Karen McDaniel or the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce.
