Reporter’s Notebook: Collectors don’t compete over toys

HUNDREDS OF PLASTIC TOYS adorn the walls of a bedroom in the home of Leta Cole.

The Clovis resident has collected toys from McDonald’s Happy Meals for about a decade.

More toys are tucked away in about 15 boxes, her husband, J.D., said.

Cole and her sisters in Missouri began collecting the toys for fun, she said.

“WE DON’T COMPETE. We help each other out,” Cole said from inside the colorful bedroom.
When the sisters receive duplicate toys, they swap, she said.

HER FAVORITE ITEMS in her collection, she said, are any Ronald McDonald toys or items.

Cole said other people collect Happy Meal toys, too. She feels her collection isn’t spectacular.
“It’s just toys,” she said.
