Clovis team wins AAU state crown in 12U division

Clovis New Breed captured the boys 12-and-under AAU state championship last weekend in Albuquerque, posting a 7-0 record.

Coach David Dawson said New Breed (a moniker he said stands for “Never Ever Wonder ’Bout Rejection, Endure Every Dream”) was placed into a pool with the top three finishers from the 2006 tournament.

Dawson said the team won its second AAU state title in three years, having also won a the 10-and-under title in 2005. The team will travel to San Diego June 22-26 for AAU Junior Olympic Games competition.

New Breed defeated New Mexico Heat, the El Paso Hurricanes and the defending champion New Mexico Force in Sunday’s single-elimination bracket to claim the championship.

Members of the team include John Dawson, Gentry Doolittle, Peyton Lott, Dakotah Yandell, Miguel Reyna, Hayden Hukill, Seth Tinkle, Nathaniel Cabezuela, David Blackmon Jr., Joshua McIntosh, Andrew Maffufo and Joseph Montano.

Coaching the team with Dawson were David Blackmon, John Olivarez, Serapio Cabezuela, Charles Lott, Dallas Yandell and Izzy Maffufo.
