A 37-year-old Clovis woman was arrested Saturday after she left her 2-month-old baby in a vehicle last week while she faxed documents at a local office store, according to police.

Maria Terrones is charged with felony child abuse, a press release from the Clovis Police Department said.

A passerby noticed the infant in the car around 11 a.m. Friday, wrapped in blankets, police said. The window was rolled down about 3 inches with temperatures in the mid-80s, a release said.

According to police, the passerby went into the store and had management page the infant’s parent but got no response, so returned to the vehicle and took the baby inside the store to wait for police.

The mother, who was located in the store by police, said she had left the child only a short time so she could send a fax, the release said.

The baby was placed in the care of the Department of Children Youth and Families.

Terrones was released on a $10,000 bond, police said.

Atttempts to reach Terrones were unsuccessful.
