Farmers have until Dec. 2 to apply for low-interest emergency loans from the Department of Agriculture to help cover the cost of losses suffered from the March tornadoes, according to a news release from New Mexico’s legislators.
President Bush declared a state of disaster on April 2 in Curry and Quay counties from the March tornadoes, ensuring residents’ eligibility for federal assistance.
Agriculture Undersecretary for Farm and Agricultural Services Mark Keenum said the Farm Service Agency will consider each application based on pre-determined criteria.
Under terms of the declaration, farmers have eight months from the date of the declaration to apply for the loans.
