DURANGO, Colo. — Montana State-Billings scored a goal just before halftime to break open a close match and the Yellowjackets went on to a 5-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday in women’s college soccer.
Leading 1-0, freshman forward Samantha Sandau punched in a goal on an assist from Kari Foreman with just over two minutes left in the half. Billings (2-0) added its final three goals in a span of 14 minutes, beginning with a goal at the 56:52 mark by senior forward-midfielder Brittney Sandau, Samantha’s sister.
The Zias (0-2) were hard-pressed to mount an attack all day as the managed just three shots total, including none on goal against Yellowjackets keepers Brittany Kundtzon and Jordan Fenwick.
Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Sanchez played nearly 60 minutes and had three saves. Freshman Jamie Silva replaced her and made four saves while allowing one goal.
The Zias open the home portion of their schedule next weekend, taking on New Mexico Highlands in a 4 p.m. start on Friday and St. Mary’s in a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
