A California health care company assumed ownership Sept. 1 of two Clovis senior health care facilities.

Skilled Healthcare Group bought 10 Laurel Healthcare Providers New Mexico facilities for $51.5 million, according to an August New Mexico Business Weekly article.

Eight of those properties are in the Albuquerque area, according to spokeswoman Ann Muraco who works at Laurel Plains Healthcare on 21st Street, which is now St. Anthony’s Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

She said Laurel Ridge Healthcare on Norris Street was renamed Clovis Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Skilled Healthcare Group is a holding company that operates nursing and assisted living facilities in California, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Nevada, according to its Web site.

Skilled Healthcare Group spokeswoman Melody Chatelle said both Clovis facilities are open.

“We’re going to continue to provide skilled nursing facilities to the community like Laurel did,” she said. “So it will be good continuation of services.”

Muraco said all employees have been retained.

Chatelle said the health care company will expand its two Clovis facilities to accommodate more people and create jobs, but she did not say when.

“We’re always seeking to do that in any market,” she said.
