A 47-year-old Clovis man charged with 143 counts of child molestation is being held on a $2 million bond, court records show.

Larry Hatcher was arrested Wednesday and is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center.

Hatcher is accused of forcing a now-16-year-old girl into having sexual relations with him for seven years or more, according to an arrest affidavit filed in Curry County Magistrate Court.

He is charged with:

—76 counts criminal sexual contact of a child under 13

—12 counts criminal sexual penetration of a child under 13

—53 counts criminal sexual contact of a child between 13 and 18

—Two counts criminal sexual penetration of a child between 13 and 18.

According to the affidavit, the girl decided to report the alleged abuse to school officials Nov. 1 after she attended a sexual awareness class at school.

The arrest affidavit consists of statements the girl made to police describing occasions the defendant allegedly engaged her in sexual activities.

“It’s one of those things that for both their sakes I hope it didn’t happen,” said Roger Hatcher, the suspect’s older brother.

“I think that the truth will come out and that’s what we want to happen. We want the truth to come out. … I have confidence in my brother that I don’t believe he would do something like this.”

Roger Hatcher said he is not aware of any direct evidence against his brother aside from statements made by the girl.

“Essentially this is a he-said-she-said (case). I’d like to know where the probable cause (for arrest) is,” he said.

Randall Harris, Larry Hatcher’s attorney, did not return calls seeking comment.
