Bill containing Cannon funds headed to Bush

WASHINGTON – The Senate gave final passage Tuesday to a bill that authorizes funding two projects at Cannon Air Force Base, according to a press releases from New Mexico’s delegation.

Congress revised the bill to address policy provisions related to Iraq that were opposed by the White House and led President Bush to pocket veto the bill in December, the releases said. The revised bill returns to President Bush to be signed into law.

The bill contains the following funds for Cannon:

$1.68 million for a new hanger for AC-130 Air Force Special Operations Command aircraft as part of the transition of Cannon to its new mission on Oct. 1.

$7.5 million for a flight simulator facility for AC-130 aircraft.
