A Curry County rancher said he is running for a seat on the county commission.

Rancher Wendell Bostwick, 61, said Thursday he is running for District 4 Commissioner Albin Smith’s seat in the Nov. 4 general election.

Smith reached the county’s two-term limit and cannot run again for two years.

“I just want to continue to keep Curry County as a place to raise a family and have a future for the family,” he said.

The signup for county positions is March 18.

A primary election will be held on Jun. 3.

Two other county commissioner seats, the county clerk and the county treasurer’s seats are up for election in the November General Elections, according to Benni Dampier of the county clerk’s office.

Dampier said commissioners Tim Ashley, Pete Hulder Smith and county clerk Mario Trujillo’s terms have expired.
