March 9, 2008 Club Notes

Republican Women’s Club
The Republican Women’s Club met Feb. 5.
The meeting was called to order by Lavonn Guthals. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were approved.
The guest speakers were Heather Wilson, Randy Crowder, Dan East, Marco Gonzales and Fred Van Solen.
The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m., March 11 at Dakota’s Steakhouse, 816 Lexington Rd. The guest speakers will be Sen. Clint Harden and Rep. Anna Crook.
The club will be working toward the November election this fall and advises that any Republican running for public office this year who may be interested in being a guest speaker call Guthals: 763-7932.

Claud Rainy Day Extension Club

The Claud Rainy Day Extension Club met Feb. 13 at the home of Judy Gambill for a Valentine tea. Members answered roll call with their favorite flower. After the business meeting, reports were given of several members ill.
The Feb. 27 meeting was held at Joan Ewing’s home. Guests Glenda Belcher and LaWanda Worley were welcomed. Lucille Johnson read “Spring” by former member Margaret Dougherty. Betty Mobley and Judy Gambill gave reports on recent leader training, Cajun cooking and served several dishes from recipes received. Reports were given by the committee preparing for the exchange meeting that will be held March 30.
Glenda Belcher gave reports on duties as county extension agent and home economist, her family, and life, preparing for her job and also county programs, responsibilities and plans for the remaining year.
The club plans to visit the Smithsonian Institute display March 12 in Portales.

Delta Kappa Gamma

Delta Kappa Gamma met Feb. 25 at the 21st Street Church of Christ.
Hostesses for the meetings were Roberta Johnson, Ann Liethen, Karen Allen, Dianne Davis, Ione Wood, Modine Parker, Marsha Shade and Vivian Coates.
Dianne Davis opened the meeting with the collect. Kristin Stata read the minutes, and Anna Kolek gave the treasurer’s report. The members voted to award Kathy Curtis a grant for continuing education. The state organization gave a library grant to House and Texico schools. Members discussed a gift to the Church of Christ in appreciation for use of the building and will vote on it at the next meeting.
At an earlier meeting of the club, Kathleen Haynes presented an informative program on estate planning. Members were able to ask questions and tell individual stories of estate situations.

Chaparral Extension Club

The Chaparral Extension Club met Feb. 28 at the extension building with 16 members in attendance.
Sheryl Abdill called the meeting to order. Linda Roberts read the minutes and thank you notes from the John Hill family. Dorothy Bean gave the treasurer’s report.
Ten members helped host the domino tournament Feb. 25. The event was evaluated.
Plans were finalized for entertaining the Ranchvale Club on March 18. Hostesses were set up for the April meetings. Upcoming workshops and events were discussed.
Hostesses Carol Litzelman and Sandra Stalcup served refreshments. Leader training on Cajun cooking was presented.
