United Way distributes funds to non-profits

The United Way of Eastern New Mexico distributed funds from its 2007-2008 fundraising campaign Friday during its annual meeting.

The organization collected about $580,000 for Curry and Roosevelt counties. The money includes designated and undesignated donations, according to United Way director Erinn Burch.

Designated funds were donations to a specific group, she said.

A committee composed of volunteers and donors decides which charitable groups received the undesignated funds and how much.
“It’s community volunteers and donors making these decision,” Burch said.

The organization will use the money to fund programs of 16 non-profit groups in Curry County and nine groups in Roosevelt County.
