HOBBS — Nicole Dickson and Brittany Regalado combined on a two-hitter as Eastern New Mexico University’s softball team bounced back from a first-game loss to blank College of the Southwest 9-0 on Tuesday.

The Mustangs (14-17) scored only their second win over ENMU, holding on to take the opener 7-6.

Dickson (5-3) allowed only a single over four innings before Regalado finished up. The Zias collected 11 hits in each game, the first time in 10 games they have reached double figures in the hit column.

Leading 1-0, the Zias (20-25) broke the second game open with a six-run third featuring two-run doubles by Alex Mayo Otis and Michelle Anderson. Haley Hays added an RBI groundout and Rebecca Quinones hit a run-scoring single in the fourth to cap the scoring.

Hays, Quinones and Laura Thompson all went 2-for-3 for ENMU.

In the opener, the Zias got a two-run double from Anna Hershkowitz in the first, but the Mustangs rallied for three runs in each of their first two at-bats, keyed by two-run singles from Lea Santos in the first and Holly Bodway in the second.

Katie Harrison’s run-scoring single made it 7-4 in the third. ENMU’s Kristen Cruickshank (8-10) blanked CSW the rest of the way, but the Zis were unable to catch up.

Casandra McCommons doubled home a run in the fifth and Mayo Otis hit an RBI single in the sixth, but the Zias stranded two runners in the sixth and went down in order in the seventh.

Ruby Garza (6-5) went the distance for the win, walking three and striking out six.
