Altrusa International Inc.


Altrusa International Inc. of Clovis met April 14 at Muffley’s Back Door.

Members were served dinner by hostesses Mary Weigl, Suzanne Funicella and Phyllis Davidson.

Following dinner, Davidson, the club president, introduced Judy Benitscheck, 2008 spelling bee organizer. She presented a program to the group outlining the process of organizing the local spelling bee. She also discussed timing, contacts and possible options in running the program. The local spelling bee is a part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee program, which sets guidelines and dates.

Following the program, drawings were held for door prizes.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. May 12 at Muffley’s Back Door.

Chaparral Extension Club


The Chaparral Extension Club met April 10 at the extension building with 14 members in attendance.

Sheryl Abdill called the meeting to order. Dorothy Bean gave the treasurer’s report. All were encouraged to sign up for gardening leader training, April 17, taught by Kurt Jaynes and a mosaic workshop, April 22, taught by Amy Armenta. Plans were finalized at the next meeting for doing the council booth at the Curry County fair.

Hostesses Dorothy Bean, Valeria Jordan and Diana Rettig had floral decorations and served a potluck meal.

Following the meal, June Phillips helped the group make a “Fussy Mussy” from kits she had made.
