A Portales woman was shot in the leg early Friday morning while she slept at an Albuquerque hotel, according to Albuquerque police.
Sylvia Montano, 56, is listed as stable after receiving treatment at University of New Mexico Hospital, Officer Nadine Hamdy said Friday afternoon.
It is a unique case, Hamdy said, considering the victim was on the eighth floor and the shot was likely fired from across the highway.
“This is definitely not something that we’ve seen (before),” she said.
Hamdy said there are no suspects and police hope a crimestoppers tip may lead to an arrest.
Montano told police she was in bed asleep with her husband around 3 a.m. at the Embassy Suites near the intersection of I-25 and I-40 when she was shot, a police report said.
A projectile was found on the bed. Police interviewed a witness who heard two shots from a location across from the hotel on the other side of I-25, the report said.
Efforts to reach Montano were unsuccessful.
