Only one bid has been received for a Prince Street paving project and it’s 42 percent higher than officials had expected.
City Purchasing Agent David Boswell said K-Barnett & Sons offered to complete the project for $4.2 million. City estimates were at $2.96 million, according to City Manager Joe Thomas.
Officials have said rising costs of asphalt are to blame for the difference.
City Manager Joe Thomas said Lydick Engineers & Surveyors, acting on the city’s behalf, will review the bid to determine what costs can be cut and Thomas hopes to present a bid to the Clovis City Commission during its next meeting scheduled for Aug. 7.
The project proposes repaving, drainage and adding sidewalks on Prince Street from 21st Street to Llano Estacado.
