Forty-six teams in nine divisions are scheduled to participate in the 2008 USSSA Youth Slow-pitch national championship tournament this weekend at Guy Leeder Complex.
The tournament is scheduled to begin tonight, with opening cereomies set for 6 p.m. Three games will be played on each of four fields, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The tournament resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday. Championship games are on tap for Sunday afternoon.
In divisions with three, four or five teams, a round-robin format will be used — including double-round-robin in the three-team girls 14-and-under bracket. In divisions with six or more teams, there is a three-team guarantee.
Girls divisions include 8-and-under, 10-and under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under and seniors (16-19). Boys divisions are 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under and 16-and-under.
The tournament is making its second appearance in three years in Clovis. The event was played in Hobbs last summer.
Twenty-seven of the teams are from Clovis, while Hobbs and Amarillo each have five entries. The tournament includes two teams from Seminole, Okla., and one each from Haltom City, Texas and Big Spring, Texas.
