Reporter’s notebook: CHS grad to be featured on horse show

Tara Harris, a 2001 Clovis High graduate, said horses have always been a part of her life.

Her passion for horses will be featured on a television show in two weeks.

Harris started riding horses when she was 2 years old and competed in rodeo events when she was in elementary school. While pursuing a marketing degree in college, she also trained in horsemanship. She said she decided horses would continue to be a part of her life either in recreation or as a profession.

She now works as a trainer with Parelli Natural Horsemanship, a horsemanship training institution.

She said horses give her a sense of freedom.

“You can run faster, you can jump higher, you can stop harder on a horse than you can on your own,” she said. “There’s nothing you can’t do when you’re on the back of a horse.”

Harris’ passion for horses and her dream to teach people to better understand horses is the subject of a new series aired on RFD-TV, a cable television station targeting the rural community.

Named “Living Your Dream,” the series debuts Wednesday and each show features seven students from Parelli, including Harris. The show featuring Harris will air Sept. 24.

“It’s an honor to even be considered because it’s important to me just to help spread the word,” she said. “Because I think this program does a lot for the horse, it does a lot for the human, and so anything I can do to help spread that message then I’m more than happy to do so.”

RFD-TV is on Channel 231 on Dish Network and Channel 379 on DirectTV.
