Clovis Police today obtained an arrest warrant and arrested 24-year-old Aaron Quinones of Clovis for One Open Count of Murder, One Count of Second Degree Felony Arson over $20,000, One Count of 2nd Degree Felony Robbery and Two Counts of 3rd Degree Felony Tampering With Evidence for the December 20, 2008 Murder of 54 year-old Elizabeth McAdams in her home at 1600 N. Lea Street in Clovis. Aaron Quinones was arrested at the Curry County Adult Detention Center this morning where he has been being held since late December 2008 following the murder on other Arson charges stemming from a 2004 case. Quinones had been found in Clovis near the Clovis Public Works Complex off of East Brady Street after being located by a Clovis Police Detective following a citizen tip. Quinones was arrested at that time for the 2004 Arson of Bender Chevrolet Dealership at 2620 East Mabry Drive in Clovis and that new information had come forward during the murder investigation of Elizabeth McAdams. The arrest for the murder had been awaiting the forensic lab results on the blood and DNA from the New Mexico Crime Lab in Santa Fe, which were received yesterday afternoon by Clovis Detectives positively identifying the victims blood and DNA on Quinones clothing.
This arrest stems from the December 20, 2008 fire call at approximately 7:13 am when Firemen of the Clovis Fire Department and Officers of the Clovis Police Department were dispatched to the 1600 Block of North Lea Street in Clovis in reference to a house fire call. Firefighters found a female victim in a back bedroom of the house lying on the floor not moving. Upon the firefighters extricating the woman from the house it was determined that the woman was deceased and had a large cut wound to the front of the neck and had some burning from the fire on her body.
Aaron Quinones is being held without bond at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on both the Murder Warrant and 2004 Arson Warrant charges. Quinones photo is attached to this release. The case is being forwarded to the 9th Judicial District Attorney Office for prosecution.
