Commission to discuss events center amenities, sheriff’s department clothing allowance

An update on amenities for the Special Events Center and a presentation of the second quarter’s financial report are among more than 30 items on the Curry County Commission agenda for today’s meeting.

Additionally, Curry County Sheriff Matt Murray is expected to ask commissioners to approve a clothing allowance for investigators and command staff who are required to dress in a professional manner.

In a letter to commissioners, Murray listed the clothing allowances for seven other agencies in the state with allowances ranging from $300 to $1,000 per year and said he is asking for $600 per year, per investigator or member of command staff, which will cost the department about $3,000 per year.

Murray said his budget can accommodate the expense.

Murray also plans to submit a request that he be permitted to elevate a sergeant to a supervisor’s position with the Region V Drug Task force.

In a separate letter to commissioners, Murray said the drug task force is without a supervisor.

The new supervisor would be responsible for making sure the task force is in compliance with Department of Public Safety policy, create operational plans for investigators and would keep the Clovis police chief and Murray advised of the progress of investigations and situations as they arise.

It has been a month since the commission last met. Officials said February’s first meeting was postponed so several members could fulfill obligations with the legislative session in Albuquerque.

Other items of interest on the agenda:

• Update on flood insurance study adoption based on FEMA maps and studies.

• County Manager Lance Pyle will seek approval to serve alcohol at the Centennial Celebration on April 18 and to apply for a permit to landscape and maintain medians or roadsides under a median adoption program with the Department of Transportation.
