Seniors jump the gun on jury duty exemption

Legislation that would allow citizens 70 and older to exempt from jury duty is causing a headache for court clerks who are fielding calls from seniors trying to invoke their age exemption.

The problem is the bill is still pending and even if it is passed, it won’t become law until July 1.

District court officials said at this time the age exemption is not available and jurors still need to follow instructions they receive with their summons.
