Robbers fracture man’s skull

CNJ staff story

A 71-year-old Plainview, Texas, man is in stable condition at a Lubbock hospital after his skull was fractured during a robbery early Sunday morning in Clovis.

Police were called to a residence in the 1000 block of Wallace Street just before 4 a.m., where the victim had been attacked while house-sitting for his uncle, who is away recovering from a broken leg, police Capt. Patrick Whitney said Monday.

According to Whitney:

• The victim told police that earlier in the evening, a couple came to the home and tried to sell him cigarettes, telling him that his uncle buys cigarettes from them.

He said the male later returned to the residence with other men and attacked and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money. The robbers hit the 71-year-old in the back of the head with an unknown object.

Police have limited descriptions at this point and detectives are investigating.
