Cannon airman, Farwell woman killed in car crash

A car crash near Weatherford, Okla., has claimed the lives of a Cannon AFB airman and his 18-year-old passenger from Farwell.

The victims are Airman 1st Class Andrew Arnett, 19, and his 18-year-old passenger Christy Thatcher.

Officials at Cannon confirmed they died April 23 in a one-car rollover on Interstate 40 just east of Weatherford.

Airman Arnett was an avionics systems apprentice in the 73rd Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Unit, a part of the 27 SOAMXS that maintains the communication and navigation equipment on MC-130W Combat Spear aircraft.

A native of Haleyville, Ala., Airman Arnett completed Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, in July 2007.

Thatcher was a 2008 Farwell High School graduate. She played flute in the band and had plans to enroll soon at Clovis Community College, according to obituary information provided by family members.

She and her boyfriend, Arnett, were returning from a trip to see his family in Haleyville, when the accident occurred.
