This is a supplemental report from Tuesday’s Curry County Commission meeting:
• Steve Kopelman, New Mexico Association of Counties risk management director, gave commissioners an explanation of the county’s insurance coverage.
Curry County has workman’s compensation, multi-line and law enforcement insurance through NMAC.
The NMAC operates an insurance pool, which results in capped rate increases and surplus returns to its members.
• Commissioners agreed to postpone discussion of a contract for a professional fund manager until next week due to difficulties conducting a conference call with the county’s finance adviser Rob Burpo.
• County Attorney Stephen Doerr reviewed a proposed contract for Global Spectrum to manage the Special Events Center.
Commissioners expressed concern about several issues in the contract, such as scheduling of events to ensure the county can use the facility during fair time and Pioneer Days, security, name rights and more.
Doerr told commissioners he would send Global Spectrum a letter outlining their concerns prior to next week’s meeting when they are expected to present the contract to commissioners.
