SAN ANGELO, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University junior Kyle Harris placed 14th in NCAA Division II national triple jump track and field competition on Saturday night at Angelo State University.

Harris went 45-7 1/4 inches, bettering his mark of 45-0 1/2 in the 2007 national meet in Charlotte, N.C.

Harris, from Altamonte Springs, Fla., became the first ENMU athlete to mark multiple trips to the NCAA nationals. Last year, Harris and then-senior Zach Gerleve in javelin were the school’s first Division II national qualifiers in track.

Sophomore Ramon Sparks of Abilene Christian was the event winning with a jump of 52-4 3/4.

Earlier this year, Harris set a school record in the event, going 49-10 1/2 in the Texas Tech Twilight Open.
