The Eastern New Mexico Rural Water Authority meets 3 p.m. Thursday at Melrose’s City Hall.
• The meeting will be preceded by a 1 p.m. study session. The session will focus on alleviating concerns the City of Portales has about proposed legislation to move the group into a true authority status.
Portales officials are concerned the legislation as currently worded, which allows the authority to raise money for the Ute Water Project by any necessary means, would create conflicts with Portales, which owns its water system.
• Members will discuss the possibility of a gesture of thanks to New Mexico’s Congressional delegation.
• Discussion is set for financial resources, including Water Trust Board appropriations and federal stimulus money.
• Updates on design activities and activities from the Interstate Streams Commission and the Ute Reservoir Advisory Group.a
