Bird causes morning power outage

At 6:41 a.m. Saturday, a bird flew into a north Clovis substation, causing damage to the equipment and shutting down power for north Clovis neighborhoods for an hour and 36 minutes, according to Xcel Spokesman Wes Reeves.

Reeves said the outage lasted longer than usual when the equipment needed repairs. About 2,400 Xcel customers were without power from 6:41 a.m. to 9:17 a.m, he said.

Reeves said animal interruption happens on occasion, but that the most common animal interruption comes from squirrels.
