DEXTER — Clovis High swimmers Nick de Maio and Jill Southard were first in boys and girls 15-17 competition of the first of three Rocky Mountain Regional Triathlon meets here Saturday.
The meet was an open event and included about 300 total athletes, including around 18 in the 15-17 age group, CJS swim coach Vincent de Maio said. Athletes competed ina 500-yard swim, a 20-kilometer bicycle race and a 5K run.
The next meet is scheduled for June 20 Loveland, Colo. The final meet, the Junior Elite National Championship, is scheduled for Aug. 8 at Colorado Springs.
Vincent de Maio said CHS expects to be represented by nine athletes at the two ensuing meets.
Nick de Maio, one of five CHS boys competiting, finished with an overall time of one hour, 10 minutes and three seconds. He was 24th overall among male competitions, Vincent de Maio said.
Also from Clovis,Ryan Waters was second in the 15-17 divisiion in 1:11:08, while Jon McCormick placed fourth, Conner Rose fifth and Brock Smith 11th.
Southard, the only CHS girl in the meet, set a new record for the Clovis club with a winning time of 1:19.23.
