The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico has recently drawn in corporate sponsorship and has plans for the new money.
The food bank received $62,000 in sponsorship from the public sector to expand its backpack program.
The program provides backpacks of food to students at Roosevelt and Curry county elementary schools.
School staff identifies students who are in need of extra food over the weekend, food bank Director Nancy Taylor said.
Taylor said expansion has been the plan since the program’s inception in 2007.
The money will allow the food bank to distribute another 105 backpacks, bringing the total up to 320.
The food bank also gained the attention of Great Lakes Airlines.
The airline, which runs service at 66 aiports including Clovis Municipal Airport, is running a food drive to benefit the Clovis food bank through the month of July.
Non-perishable food items can be brought to the Great Lakes counter and those who donate willl be eligible to win one of four round trip tickets between Clovis and Albuquerque.
