Parents will need to bring one more piece of paper when registering their student for school in Clovis this year. And it must be something that offers proof or residency.
It’s all because the New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority is requiring Clovis Municipal Schools to geocode, or map the district before it will provide $55 million for school renovations.
“PSFA needs this done to justify the money they’re putting into certain schools,” Superintendent Rhonda Seidenwurm said.
Seidenwurm said in order for the district to get the most current address information for the students, parents will need to provide proof of residency when registering their student for school this year.
Proof could include a utility bill or copy of a lease.
“This will not affect where a child goes to school,” Seidenwurm said. “We’re not rezoning. We just need to know where all our kids are.”
The district recently sent a letter to parents explaining the process.
The letter asks parents bring proof of residency to their students’ school on or before the first day of school Aug. 14.
Seidenwurm said she’s hoping to get all the required information quickly so the district can move past this step of the PSFA process.
PSFA is providing 80 percent of construction costs for the massive renovations across the district.
