The GAP Project, sponsored by United Way’s Day of Caring Committee, will be completed Saturday, Aug. 15, with the installation of playground equipment at the Grand Avenue Apartments. Work will begin at 8 a.m. Other improvements will be made including laying of pea gravel and painting the railing around the grounds.
Twenty Lowe’s Heroes and other volunteers will do the work. Lowe’s is also donating $1,200 in supplies and materials. El Desayuno Kiwanis donated $1,000 to the project. Some $3,000 is still needed, according to Christina Martinez, chair of the Day of Caring Committee. Anyone wishing to donate to the project may call United Way at 769-2103.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at noon prior to a lunch for volunteers only. McDonald’s is donating the food.
Kerry Crawford is the honorary chairman of the Day of Caring Committee. Other community members who serve on the committee are: Tony Bogusz, Greg Gracia, Cliff Martin, Chris Pacheco, Sandra Flatow, Louis Gordon, Johnny Rucker and Greg Williams.
