The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education met Tuesday at La Casita Elementary School:

• Superintendent Rhonda Seidenwurm gave an update on the state Legislature’s special session, which begins Saturday.

The message was essentially too much is unknown at this point, and community meetings will be scheduled after the session concludes.

Seidenwurm said it’s important to note when Gov. Bill Richardson said he wants no cuts to education, that means no cuts beyond what concessions have already been made.

She said a cut of $3.6 million was made to Clovis Schools this year, but it wasn’t felt because most of the holes were plugged with money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

If federal stimulus dollars aren’t replaced two years from now, Seidenwurm said, it would amount to an estimated 12 percent budget cut.
