PORTALES — Senior center William Slones’ dunk with 3:06 left erased Eastern New Mexico University’s only lead of the night and Southeastern Oklahoma went on to a 67-63 men’s Lone Star Conference crossover victory over the Greyhounds on Thursday night at Greyhound Arena.

The Savage Storm (3-3), winning for the third time in a row, saw a 19-point, first-half lead as the Hounds (4-2) continued to make a habit of coming from behind in games. ENMU took its only lead of the game on junior guard Reggie Nelson’s 3-pointer with 6:10 left for a 55-54 lead, but after three empty possessions for each team Southeastern outscored the Hounds 13-8 down the stretch for the win.

Junior guard Darrell Hicks scored 28 points while sophomore guard Mychal Horn added 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Southeastern. Hicks shot 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, including a 3-pointer after Slones’ dunk for a four-point lead with 2:25 left.

ENMU got a season-best 18 points from Nelson, who went 5-for-9 from 3-point range, while junior forward Tyler Jefferson added 15 points and 12 rebounds and senior forward Equs Darby scored 10 points.

Outside of the one lead, the Hounds managed only one tie — at 5-5 in the opening minutes after the Savage Storm scored the game’s first five points.

Southeastern then went on a 16-2 run over the next 6 1/2 minutes for a 14-point lead, and stretched that to 30-11 on a 4-point play by Hicks with 6:38 left in the half.

Darby’s 3-pointer got the Hounds started back, and they completed a 22-9 run to pull to 35-33 on a basket by reserve Michael Brown with 1:08 left in the half.

Southeastern, though, got two free throws from Hicks and a jumper with two seconds left in the half from Horn for a 39-33 lead at the break.

ENMU finishes a four-game homestand with a 4 p.m. crossover game against East Central on Saturday.
