The city streets were quiet Friday morning except for a front end loader here and there or an occasional city truck.
And Police Chief Steve Sanders said that’s a good thing.
“Just stay home one more day,” Sanders said. “It’s a good Friday to stay at home.”
Temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s today.
Weather officials estimate more than 8 inches of snow fell on the area Thursday, after a winter storm first brought with it freezing rain and sleet, then left the largest amount of snow this year.
Sanders said roads continue to be treacherous this morning and issued the same caution as Thursday — stay home.
“They’re extremely snow packed and icy,” he said. “It’s just as dangerous today as it was yesterday.”
As the storm hit Thursday, police were busy helping stuck travelers and responding to single vehicle crashes where vehicles slid from roadways. Sanders said the night was fairly quiet and thus far there have been no major incidents resulting from the weather.
Today area schools are closed for a second day as well as many governement entities and businesses.
