ABILENE, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team is in for a long day today at Abilene Christian — the teams will try to complete a four-game Lone Star Conference series with a tripleheader.
The teams are scheduled to play 25 innings. Saturday’s game, postponed by rain, will start at 9 a.m. (MDT) with Sunday’s scheduled doubleheader — seven innings in the first game, nine in the second — to follow.
ENMU (14-12, 12-9 LSC) won Friday’s seven-inning series opener 4-3, scoring twice in the top of the seventh. The teams then tried to start a second game, but got through only three batters — the Greyhounds had a runner at third with two out in the top of the first, which is where the game will resume today.
ACU (19-7, 11-6) is ranked 11th in NCAA Division II, but the Wildcats have lost five of their last seven.
Other area events scheduled for Saturday which were postponed included Clovis High’s baseball doubleheader at Roswell Goddard, and a tournament at Tucumcari involving Texico. The Wolverines beat Cimarron 18-5 in a quarterfinal game on Friday.
Both events will be rescheduled if possible.
