PORTALES — District 3 champion Curry County’s first-round game in the state junior Little League (ages 13-14) baseball tournament was rained out Saturday night at Ram Field.
The contest was to have been the last of four first-round games. It has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. today at Ram Field, following the completion of a game stopped Saturday night in the fourth inning with Taos leading Los Alamos 7-2.
In earlier games on Saturday, Carlsbad trounced Albuquerque South Valley 10-1 and Alamogordo Rotary posted a 3-1 victory over Silver City in a game called by rain after six innings.
In other state Little League action involving District 3 teams:
• Roosevelt County posted an 11-0 first-round win over Pecos in the 10-11 tournament at Albuquerque. The game was called after four innings due to a 10-run rule.
Darian Ontiveros hit a two-run homer for Roosevelt, while Mario Cordova went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple. Joseph Ortega, Edgardo Chavez and Cordova combined for the shutout on the mound.
Roosevelt will face tournament host Albuquerque Roadrunner, which had a first-round bye, in a 9 a.m. game today.
• In the 9-10-year-old tournament at Raton, Clovis American was dealt a 13-3 loss at the hands of Albuquerque Paradise Hills.
Kayden Shober and Rheal Kuchta each went 2-for-3 for American, which returns to action at 11:30 a.m. Monday against the winner of today’s game between White Rock and Silver City.
• Roosevelt County’s 11-12-year-old squad absorbed an 18-1 setback from Albuquerque Altamont at Alamogordo. Roosevelt County will face Albuquerque Petroglyph, which lost on Friday to Carlsbad, in a 5 p.m. elimination game today.
Omar Legarda and Kersey Burnett each had a single for Roosevelt.
