Tuesday morning briefing: Calling area farmers and ranchers

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Tuesday briefing.

Nominations needed

The Roosevelt County Farm Service Agency is taking nominations for the County Committee until Aug. 2.

The committee administers FSA programs at the local level, and farmers and ranchers who are members decide how to make the programs serve local needs.

Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old, live in the local administrative area their seat represents and participate or cooperate in a Farm Service Agency program.

The Community Services Center in Portales 11th annual Barbecue Benefit Dinner is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

Plates cost $7 and include barbecue brisket and sausage, potato salad, coleslaw, beans, a roll, cobbler with ice cream and tea or coffee.

Proceeds benefit the center.

On this day in 1974, the House Judiciary Committee recommended America’s 37th president, Richard M. Nixon, be impeached and removed from office.

The impeachment proceedings resulted from a series of political scandals involving the Nixon administration that came to be collectively known as Watergate.
