Authorities plan to present two Muleshoe homicides to a grand jury Sept. 13.

Police Chief Brian Frieda said Wednesday a special grand jury has been called to hear the cases.

Daniel Mendoza, 20, and Michael Garcia, 25, are being held in connection with the July 3 shooting death of 19-year-old Rolando Sauceda.

Police have said they have a person of interest in the Aug. 13 stabbing death of 42-year-old Benny Martinez Sr., but no arrests have been made.

A grand jury is presented with testimony and evidence and is charged with determining if probable cause exists to indict a suspect on criminal charges.
