A 1-month-old girl hospitalized with injuries from abuse has improved and will soon be released to foster care.
The girl was taken to a Lubbock children’s hospital Sept. 28 and underwent brain surgery after extensive injuries were discovered by staff at Plains Regional Medical Center.
Police said Tuesday in a press release that her situation has improved and she is being released from the hospital to the custody of child services, who will place her in foster care.
There is an ongoing investigation into the child’s injuries and arrests are expected in connection with the case, the release said.
Also, a 6-month-old boy who was taken to the hospital the same day with injuries from abuse has been listed in stable condition, the release said, and remains hospitalized in a Lubbock children’s unit.
His prognosis remains undetermined.
His mother, Amanda Fain, 21, was arrested Thursday on charges of child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.
The two cases are unrelated.
